Description

Sarcophagus case of the Assos sarcophagus type. The main face of the case is decorated with garlands, which form two arches. The bows are carried on stylized rams' heads at the ends and on a delta (tabula ausata), measuring 58 x 81 cm, in the center. In the middle of each arch hangs a rhomboid jewel, 12 cm high. Above the arches are rendered stylized bottles. In the central panel, the inscription is engraved in six rows: Κορνηλία / Θεονίς / ἐτῶν ξε΄ / Σιλβάνος Σω / σου υιος ἐτῶν / οζ΄ χαίρε. The reverse side is similar to the main one, but with the central panel uninscribed. On the narrow sides of the sarcophagus is a similar garland but with a single bow.
