Description

A relief of exceptional art adorns the suffix of the two-lobed window in the arch of the central niche of the sacred Step of Blacherna. The main chamfered surface is embossed with a solid stem that curves, forming a large circular partition, inscribed with a large seven-lobed leaf. From the stem grow other smaller ones that fill the upper corners of the suffix. The depth is roughly beaten with a fine needle. The treatment of the relief leaves no doubt that it is the work of the same artists who also created the iconostasis of the temple. In the relief, the same engraving and many individual details, such as the purity of the design that characterize the work of the same artists, can be recognized.
