Description
Deep, silver dish with elaborate, embossed decoration on the inner wall (front). The bottom of the vessel is distinguished from the rest of the body, as it deepens strongly. On the wall are formed six transverse, trapezoidal "metopes" decorated with extraordinary relief. There are three themes and they are rendered symmetrically opposite each other. Two come from the plant kingdom and the third from the bird kingdom. The interesting thing is that while the same subjects are used, there are differences in their performance. One theme is related to flowers. Rose-shaped flowers and acanthus leaves spread across the surface. The difference in performance in the two opposing "metopes" has to do with layout. The other subject yields a vine. The difference here lies in the relief. The leaves of one "metope" are more odd than those of the other. The third subject shows a bird stepping on a stem surrounded by dense foliage. The birds depicted are different in the two scenes, while the plant decoration is also different, both in content and arrangement. The plate rests on three molded, triangular legs that imitate a floral decoration.
